1st. Annual Block Island Kayak Fishing Tournament

The dates for the 2006 Block Island Kayak Fishing Tournament have been finalized. It will be held from Friday September 22 to Sunday September 24th. The tournament will start at 4:00 Friday and finish at Noon on Sunday. Participants are encouraged to bring a USB cable for their cameras for the Judges if they prefer to release their catches. We will also have a dedicated VHF/Cell Phone for checking up on recent fish weighed in as well. For those of you bringing a vehicle, it is stongly recommended to make your reservations well in advance by calling Interstate Navigation at (401) 783-4613. Twin Maples has very convenient rooms, bait shop, and access to New Harbor, their number is (401)466-5547.

Targeted Species will include: Striped Bass, Bluefish, Bonito, and false Albacore.

Divisions will be: Spin/Conventional-Bait/Artificial
Fly
Kayak Grand Slam: Highest combined weight of Striper, Blue, and Bonito or False Albacore.

Congratulations to Tom "Seadogface" McDevitt for pulling in the wining fish and being the tourney champ in it's first year. Despite some very nasty weather a few brave souls still came out and dealt with the weather and some good donations were made to The Beckwith-Wiedemann Children's Foundation. Thanks again to all those who made it out and I look forward to next year.
